BEAUTY ADVENT 2017 // DAY #6: Disco balls for your eyelids!

I don’t know about you, but in my twenties I used to love me a bit of glitter. Especially on the eyelids. Back then ‘Britters’, as I like to call her, was in the charts and when I look back at photos of fun nights out, invariably I am sporting some kind of shimmery, glittery or sparkly eye (sometimes all three! LORD).

One of my favourite beauty writers Sali Hughes regularly affirms that one can never be too old for glitter, leopard print or mini skirts (hear hear!) and as I approach the big ‘Four-O’, I find myself once again seduced by glittery makeup. The main difference, compared to my glitter-dousing twenties, is that I now want to wear it as a chic accessory, rather than as the main event 😉

Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow

These liquid eye shadows from Stila are your one way ticket to festive glamour and are an absolute doddle to apply.

They can be worn all over the eyelid (though I would encourage you not to go above the socket) or, as a sparkly liner hugging the upper lash line (for this you will need a brush like this one, or an angled brush like this one).

The eye shadows come in a myriad of colours and suit all skin tones (though I can imagine the lighter shades could look a bit garish on deeper skin tones). I could easily have bought the entire range but in the end opted for the shade ‘Rose Gold Retro’ after I saw Lisa Eldridge demo it in this video (Lisa introduces the shade at 11 mins 30 seconds into the video if you want to see it being applied).

THE FACTS:

How much is it:

£23.00. In writing this post I came across a mini set of three called ‘Written In The Stars’ (just gorgeous) but it has sold out EVERYWHERE (you can sign up for a wait list on cultbeauty.com here).

Where can I buy it:

Stila.co.uk, Boots, M&S (amazing, right?), ASOS, Feelunique etc.

Who is it for:

Anyone. If buying for your glitter-loving ma or aunty remind them that less is more, not least because the glitter can be absolutely hellish and not to mention downright dangerous if it gets into the wearer’s eyes (and on that note I would say it is arguably not suitable for young teenagers).

Can I wear it to the office?

Not unless your office is a discotheque.

Coming up tomorrow…

You’ll have to tune in to find out! See you there.

xx

A bit more about my Advent Cal:

My advent-themed calendar is designed to give you, lovely reader, some ideas for presents this gifting season. The list is based on my Top 25 Beauty Buys of recent years. Of the 25 products which made the cut, some I have used for the first time this year and others I have been using for several years. The selection criteria for each product was as follows:

1. It is a product I have repurchased or know I will definitely repurchase at some point
2. It is an item I believe will genuinely make an awesome gift for someone this Christmas

This series is not sponsored in any way and you should know that, like many makeup artists, I am one of the fussiest people I know when it comes to selecting and using beauty products. They have to blow me away. Hope you enjoy!
