BEAUTY ADVENT 2017 // DAY #19: If it is good enough for Wonder Woman…

Since I became a makeup artist it has become almost impossible for me to watch a movie without my mind wandering at least a dozen times to the makeup the protagonist or key actor is wearing. Classic examples of me obsessing over lipstick shades when I should be concentrating on the plot include the sublime ‘Carol‘, that scene where Bérénice Marlohe seduces Daniel Craig in Skyfall and more recently, ‘Wonder Woman’.

If you have seen Wonder Woman you will no doubt be familiar with Gal Gadot’s extraordinary features, but what most interested me was the natural sheen of her lips throughout the film. Minutes after I saw the film, with a quick google, I was able to discover what it was.

Miss Gadot’s lips were so natural in the film I was half suspecting the makeup artist to have used a tinted lip balm but was pleasantly surprised to discover it was a bit more than that. Sarah Brock, makeup artist on the film, revealed on her Instagram that the shade she used was Dr Perricone’s No Lipstick Lipstick. I was already familiar with the range, having once won the No Foundation Foundation (wonderful product) from the same range in a Liberty competition, so was excited to see what the brand had to offer by way of a lip product.

As the name suggests the No Lipstick Lipstick provides a wonderfully natural sheen which mimics a ‘no lipstick’ effect on the wearer. It has a subtle pink hue which I imagine would work well on any lip tone, is moisturising and is the antithesis of wearing a traditional lipstick (I forget I am wearing it half the time which is part of the joy).

Excuse the no makeup selfie (and I mean, literally no makeup in this shot, bar the lipstick!) but I snapped this on a makeup free day because I wanted you to see how natural it is.

Like most makeup lovers I am obsessed with lip products, ever in search of the unseen hue or an indescribable texture. I had low expectations for this product when I bought it but have found myself wearing it so much over recent months that it has attained ‘to be repurchased’ status. It is now firmly in my Top 10 Natural/Nude lip favourites and think it would make the most wonderful, not to mention instantly wearable gift.

A bit more about my Advent Cal:

My advent-themed calendar is designed to give you, lovely reader, some ideas for presents this gifting season. The list is based on my Top 25 Beauty Buys of recent years. Of the 25 products which made the cut, some I have used for the first time this year and others I have been using for several years. The selection criteria for each product was as follows:

1. It is a product I have repurchased or know I will definitely repurchase at some point
2. It is an item I believe will genuinely make an awesome gift for someone this Christmas

This series is not sponsored and you should know that, like many makeup artists, I am one of the fussiest people I know when it comes to selecting and using beauty products. They have to blow me away. Hope you enjoy!
